Community Solidarity - Local Long Island Non Profit

One of my favorite non-profit charities that I support is Community Solidarity ( They are a Long Island hunger relief organization that sets up in 5 different locations on Long Island and Brooklyn each week, rain, sleet or snow! They have a team of volunteers who rescued fresh vegetarian groceries from grocery stores and restaurants every night. They bring the food to these locations (Bed Stuy, Hempstead, Huntington, Wyandanch, & Farmingville) and people who are in need in those communities are free to come and shop for whatever they need for that week, for free. They also collect clothes, household items, toys and school supplies for those people as well. I make a point to bring donations to at least one location a week if I can - mainly clothes and toys that my family and friends have outgrown. It feels good to pass along perfectly good items that aren't being used and giving them to people who have fallen on hard times.

I choose to believe the best in people, and I know that this organization provides hope, love and a sense of community for everyone involved. We are all in this world together, and it's our job to spread our blessing to those who are less fortunate.
