Care More

We all do our best to care about ourselves, our family and our friends. But this is not enough in the world we live in today. We need to care more about the world outside of our own lives. Issues such as childhood hunger, violence in our schools, homes, and on the streets, catastrophic weather events as a result of climate change, are not going to change if we don’t all change on a larger scale, sustained manner. We need to take action on issues we know in our hearts need to change. Whatever that issue is for each of us, it is our moral responsibility to help make a positive change now. We can’t let the thought that our small acts won’t move the needle, so why bother? Our small, sustained acts of kindness have the ability to change the lives of others and will also inspire others to act, creating a ripple effect.

If you have old clothes, books, household and baby items, food that are lying idle in your home, donate it to those in need in your community. Ask your friends and family if they have anything to donate that you can take to the needy.

  • Recycle everything you can.

  • If you see trash on the sidewalk, pick it up and throw it out. Organize a neighborhood trash pick-up day!

  • Pack a small bag of granola bars, money, clean socks, toothbrush/toothpaste/floss, essentials, and bring it into the city on your next trip to give to someone who is homeless.

  • Offer to walk a sick or elderly neighbor’s dog, rake or shovel their yard, or even just ask them how they are doing.

  • Write a letter to your grandparents or give them a call to say hi.

  • Bake cookies for the local fire or police department. Write a note to thank them for all they do for your community.

  • Eat vegan 1 day a week. The environment and animals will thank you!

  • Leave places cleaner than when you got there. So, clean up after yourself and pick something else you can tidy up as well. When you are at the beach or the park, make sure you don’t leave anything behind and pick up a piece of garbage on your way out. You might just save the life of an animal.

  • Plant a garden. If you have extra vegetables that you won’t use, give them to your neighbors or the local food bank.

  • Create a Peace Garden - this can be as small or big as you can imagine. This can be a space in your yard where you can go to have peace and connect with nature.

  • Create a vision board with images and words that inspire you.

  • Help organize a Kids Peace Festival in your community

  • Commit a random act of kindness each and every day.

  • Pray for the Earth, for the homeless, and for the sick.

You have the power to change the world with your unique and special gifts – it’s time to put them to use for GOOD. This is our job here on Earth – to love all and spread kindness to all, no matter what!

“The thing we need in the world today is a group of men and women who will stand up for what is right and be opposed to wrong, whatever it is.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
